Steinhaus Market

By now, if you are a foodie living in the Marquette area I'm going to assume that you have eaten at Das Steinhaus, one of the best restaurants in the area. The Steinhaus Market, located on Front street in Marquette, has all of the same great flavors and tastes of Das Steinhaus (Steinhaus Market is their sister restaurant), only in more of a pub style atmosphere. Not only is Steinhaus a restaurant, but it also has a market and deli that stocks items such as imported cheeses to house-made sausages. On Saturday nights they have open-mic nights and local bands play (check their Facebook page for updates). And if you don't have time to sit down in the restaurant, they now offer take-out.

For an appetizer we ordered the Poutine Fries. These are not your average order of fries. They come loaded with cheese curds, dredged in a gravy and topped with fresh herbs. I wasn't a huge fan of the gravy (I think a cheese sauce for my personal preference would have been better), but I LOVED the cheese curds. They are one of my favorite appetizers of all time, and usually you have to go to Wisconsin to get fried curds this good. I also took a picture of my Virgil's Cream Soda that I had ordered, because it is one of the best cream soda's I have ever had.

My husband ordered the Jagerschnitzel for dinner. It is a breaded pork cutlet with a mushroom rahm sauce and seasonal vegetables on the side. Normally it comes with spatzle, but they had run out so he ordered a soft pretzel as one of the sides instead with a mustard dipping sauce. I took a bite of the soft pretzel and it was delicious.

I ordered the Country Fried Schnitzel. It is a breaded pork cutlet covered in a sausage gravy. The pork was set on a bed of American style hash browns, and topped with two over easy eggs. I was able to get a small bite of everything on my fork at one time and it was mouth watering. I think I would still order the Jagerschnitzel over the Country Fried Schnitzel, only because I am not a huge fan of meat gravy and the rahm sauce on the Jagerschnitzel is amazing.

The Steinhaus Market is a great new place to sit down, relax, and maybe even listen to a bit of music while eating a delicious, made from scratch meal. Having only eaten here once so far, it has still easily become one of my husband and I's top 10 favorite restaurants in Marquette. This is a great restaurant that you don't want to miss out on when you are in the area!
